CIVILITY BEE INFORMATION

Now OPEN! April 13 – June 30, 2023, with winners announced on the 4th of July!
The Constitution and Civility Center at American Heritage School, Braver Angels, and Constructive Dialogue Institute present the Civility Bee – a free online contest to incentivize teenagers 15-18 years of age* to learn the principles and skills behind the desperately-needed art of civility!
Why a Civility Bee?
All three organizations believe that there is more that unites us in this great nation than that divides us. We also believe that learning the principles and skills associated with civility will bring about the best in each individual and in America as a whole. We also know, though, that it is hard to make time to learn about and apply these principles and skills, so we are offering cash prizes to entice you to make time for this important endeavor. We know you will be happy you did!
How Does the Civility Bee Work?
Qualifying participants (those 15-18 years of age* as of April 1, 2023) will register for an online course developed by the Constructive Dialogue Institute entitled, Perspectives. This 8-lesson course will provide the content for the Civility Bee. Participants will take Perspectives lesson 1 (which includes several quiz questions within the lesson to check for understanding along the way) and then will return to this site to take quiz 1, which will ask questions directly from the content of Perspectives lesson 1. The participant will then move on to take Perspectives lesson 2, followed by taking quiz 2 on this site. The participant will continue this process for all 8 lessons. (Each lesson will take approximately 1/2 hour, and each quiz will take approximately 15 minutes). Participants have until June 30, 2023 to take all eight Perspectives courses on the Constructive Dialogue Institute site and their corresponding quizzes on this site at their own leisure and pace. None of the quizzes within the 8 lessons of the Perspectives course nor on this site will count for or against the participant. The quizzes are only meant as preparatory quizzes for the Final online Civility Bee, which will contain all the questions from the 8 quizzes on this site. The Final Civility Bee will be a timed, open-note, online exam, which registered participants will only be allowed to take once, and which also must be completed by midnight on June 30, 2023. Top scorers on the Final Civility Bee will win the cash prizes. Winners will be announced on the 4th of July.
